Where is it?
As part of the Florida Gulf Islands, Anna Maria Island is situated on the upper part of the Florida Gulf coast, Western Florida. Enveloped by the sea of the Gulf of Mexico, this charming little island enjoys blissful isolation whilst being a short car ride to the Florida mainland.
Historical Facts
Having initially been discovered by local Indian tribes, it was then discovered although not settled upon by Spanish explorers in 1539. Eventually, the island was permanently settled upon by George Emerson Bean in 1892 who’s remaining life as well his sons was devoted to building up the island and ultimately putting it on the map.
Tourism
Due to the truly breath-taking beauty of the island, it swiftly developed its title as the “wedding capital of Florida.” With an all year round temperature of around 75 degrees, and exotic sceneries of shimmering clear water, it poses the ideal romantic backdrop for such a life-changing occasion.
There has also been a significant rise in Anna Maria Island hotels and rental homes. Such a wonderful vacation spot does not go unnoticed for long. With holiday makers swiftly becoming homeowners on the island, Anna Maria Island rentals have seen a significant increase.
Filming Location
Not only are holiday makers not letting the islands beauty slip between their fingers, music video producers are not prepared to do so either. A popular music band in Florida has featured Anna Maria Island in their music videos – hopefully the new Bond movie next?
