Lanzarote´s Best Sights & Attractions

Lanzarote is a popular Spanish holiday island – but it´s located much closer to Africa than the Iberian Peninsula. And as a result enjoys a different, more desert like climate. With temperatures remaining spring like most of the year round and with very little in the way of rainfall. Ideal conditions for anyone seeking a sunshine break at any time of the year.
One of the best things about the island it that is it small and manageable, which makes exploring easy. Lanzarote car hire is cheap too, with prices starting from as little as €13 per day. Whilst petrol is also much more affordable than in the UK. As a result most visitors staying in Lanzarote villas , hotels and apartments book car rental in Lanzarote for the duration of their stay in order to discover the many delights on offer here.
And there´s certainly no shortage of things to do and see. Lanzarote is well known for having a unique volcanic landscape caused by eruptions hundreds of years ago. So as a result the scenery here is weird and unusual. Nowhere more so than in the heart of the volcanic region, the Timanfaya National Park. Where visitors can view loads of now dormant volcanoes and mile after mile of lava fields.
As you´d expect from a holiday island Lanzarote is also big on beaches and there are around 100 here to explore. Everyone has their favourite and there are some decent beaches in each of the three main resorts. But for the best most locals would agree that you have to travel a little to other parts of the island. Such as the North West coast which is home to the huge sweeping bay at Famara. Or down to the south coast to take in delightful seaside villages and beaches such as Arrieta and Orzola.
As well as stunning scenery and great beaches Lanzarote is also home to some pretty villages and towns. Such as Haria, which is located in the aptly named Valley of 1000 Palms. And Yaiza, known locally as the miracle village as this is where the lava flow from the nearby volcanoes finally came to a halt.
History buffs should head for Teguise as this is not only the oldest settlement on the island but also in the Canaries. Dating back to the early 1400´s Teguise is home to some fine examples of colonial architecture and also plays host a huge market every Sunday.
